BOGO Is The Time To Shop Payless

Payless ShoeSource

You know you're a shoe addict when you order shoes from a store that is only a few miles away. Or maybe it just makes me lazy.

At any rate, I have been ordering shoes from Payless ShoeSource for years. I even have orders sent to my house rather than pick them up in the store even if the shipping can be slow.

What Payless Sells

This site sells shoes (boots, sandals, and sneakers) for women, men, and kids. There are also handbags, socks and other accessories.

Payless has the latest styles and cconstant promotions. Across the top of the site are categories: Shop by Size, Women's, Men's, Girl's, Boys', Accessories, Sale, and Wide Widths. You can also click on one of the photos on the homepage and see what the shoe or line offers. The photos are thumbnails thae enlarge when you click on them. Plain-English descriptions with no sales chatter accompany each listing.

Act fast when you see shoes you like because popular sizes and styles quickly sell out. If there are other sizes available, only the size out of stock will be ommited.

If you are a repeat shopper, supply your email address and password for a fast checkout. If you are not registered, you will need to fill in the usual personal info.

Pick your shopping preference and pay by a major credit card. You will get a confirmation number and an email. Orders can be shipped to your home or the store. Strangely enough, I have never been asked for identification when I had orders shipped to the store. T

Shopping At Payless

During BOGO, they take half off the least expensive item in the cart but you can buy as many shoes and purses as you want and you will get the lowest ones half off. If you are going to have the items shipped to a store near you, which is free, I suggest you make a couple orders if you are getting some expensive and some cheap shoes. That is, buy the two pairs of $34.99 boots on one order and get one half price. Then buy the two pairs of inexpensive athletics or casual shoes or two purses and get the cheapest one half off. If you buy all four on one order, the two cheapest things will be half off and you will pay too much.

Trust me, I know the tricks!

I want to like this store and I do like some of what they sell. I like the convenience of choosing shoes and handbags from my computer rather that fighting crowds and walking down the long racks of shoes and pulling boxes off shelves. When they have my size and the order goes well, I am usually satisfied with the quality of the shoes which are obviously not designer quality but decent.

But man! The shipping takes forever and the mistakes are getting more prevalent. Shipping is only $1.95 per pair of shoes or purse and $3.95 handling. In other words, expect to add on $6.00 for each pair of shoes or a purse.

Shipping is free to ship to a Payless Store of your choosing.

Although the shipping chart doesn't say so, shipping is usually free for orders over $50.00. I never paid for shipping. You can choose second day or next day air for a fee.

It is best to return items to a Payless store. That is free and you can swap ill-fitting shoes for ones that aren't (although they may not be the same ones you originally purchased). If there is no Payless ShoeSource near you, you can return items by mail on your dime. Shipping charges are never refunded.

Refunds get crazy when you return one pair of shoes after using BOGO. They will only refund you for half the price of the item even if that wasn't the item you got half off. You definitely end up with less of a refund than you should most times. It's better to go to the store and pick something else if you can.

The Bottom Line, Clicks and All

Man, this is a tough one. On one hand, I like the convenience of shopping at Payless ShoeSource online and I like some of their styles, many of which are takeoffs of Skechers, Uggs, Crocs, Steve Madden, and other designers I love. When they have a sale and everything goes well, I would give the site 3.5 stars.
