Wonderful Outdoorsy Products
National Wildlife Federation
The National Wildlife Federation has great stuff with nature themes. From t-shirts and sweatshirts to lamps and bedding, they have all kinds of products with loads of personality and not available down the road at the mall.
I can't even remember when I first started buying products from this store. Initially they sent a catalog to my house. They still do, but I shop online now that they got hooked up with Yahoo and have a storefront on the web.
You'll find something from The National Wildlife Federation in almost every room in my house. I especially like the shower curtain that has a forest and birds. It's just a regular curtain made of plastic, but the pictures on it make the bathroom look very outdoorsy. Eli's comforter made of flannel is fabulous. It's thick and soft and warm. I hate to take it off for warm weather. The green and browns are relaxing and give his room a boy look but with a feel of luxury. He enjoys laying on his bed to do his homework and to watch TV, so a nice spread that washes well is important. This was a great investment and something that Eli is very attached to.
Be sure to check out the cards. They have them for holidays or just the plain ones to send all year. The designs are beautiful, and the card stock is thick and really nice. I always keep a box of these on hand.
We have some clothing from NWF. The clothing for women reminds me of Coldwater Creek items. They are well made and dressy casual. The shirts for women and for kids are all cotton and really soft. The necks are the right size. Some shirts are too tight around the neck and look and feel awful. These are the ones that are sized perfect. My older son likes sports, and it's easy to find clothing for him. Eli likes the outdoors. It's much harder to find things that he loves, but I can get some neat things for him at NWF.
For Christmas, I bought my brother the dinner set with birds. Those are really nice. I checked them when they came in to make sure nothing broke. They were packed great, and nothing was chipped in the whole set.
I could go on and on about the great stuff they sell at NWF, but you can link and see the products. They don't have a huge number of items, but they rotate and get new products in every few months. I always see something I want every time they get new things in.
The prices are a little on the high side but not outrageous. I would call them "city prices." For an example, a t-shirt would generally run about $20 here at NWF, while I would get a t-shirt in town for $15. But, I would not find these prints in our stores. They have sales from time to time but not very often. When you see a sale, it's a great time to buy from NWF.
As far as shipping, the prices are also on the high end, but they do pack very carefully. On the clothing it doesn't matter much, but it is nice that they take special care with the glass items. I've never had any damage on anything no matter how the box looks coming in.
Something I really like about this store is that the profit goes to help wildlife and to conserve natural areas. NWF is a non-profit organization and not a business to make money. If I pay a little more than I might, then I know the money is going to make the world a better place.
The only thing that I've ever found confusing about this store is the name. When they started sending emails, I thought the NWF was the National Wrestling Federation. The boys watch that stuff, so I thought they had signed me up for some email online. I was deleting those emails until I figured out that they were coming from one of my favorite stores. Now, I check those every time. I like to know when they have new products or when they have the rare sales.
