I'm a little hesitant about mail order blooming stuff, since I've been burned a couple of times with some gosh awful plants that would just take all manner of miracles to grow. When you see that you can get some weeping cherry trees cheap on eBay, just don't even think about it. You get some dead twigs that will never in a million years grow.
Brecks does not try to hook you up with things not meant to be mailed in the first place. They focus on bulbs and some tubers which do mail well and can be counted on for color in the yard. I've had good luck with such items at Ebay and with a couple of other companies, but I'm still sold on Brecks.
The first time I had Brecks bulbs was 5 years ago when my sister bought me some tulip bulbs when I bought my house. She got some bright purple ones, since I adore purple. Those have been the largest of my tulips and have spread over time so that I have been able to move them around and have even more purple tulips.
Since I thought the Brecks bulbs were really top notch, I ordered some with the catalog borrowed from my sister. I think I made a couple of orders that way and then shifted over to online. I just find it much easier to order online and also find more information as far as making my selections.
The online site for Brecks is really nice. They have several ways to search. They have the types of flowers at the top of the page like iris and lilies. To the side, they have options like time of year for blooming. It's nice to have flowers all during the growing season and most flowers have varieties that bloom at various times. Most folks don't know what blooms when, so that is most helpful.
Once you get in a section, then you can search by specifics. For example, you can look at all the daffodils by color. If you want pink, then you can find which ones comes in that color.
Brecks provides a variety of collections, so shoppers can get color coordinated sets or all the dwarf varieties. These groupings are fun and interesting whether you buy by collection or not. They also offer price breaks on collections so you get more for the dollar with things they have grouped.
If you keep an eye out, then Brecks has some nice sales. They have coupons that pop up at deal sites and send out emails with specials. The deals are the real products and not the culls, so it's a treat to get the top quality flower bulbs with a price break.
When you order from Brecks, they confirm quickly by email. They also send the items out when due for planting even it that is not when you actually order. They email to let you know that it is time and that the bulbs are on the way. I like that, because I can plan to work in the yard based on when the items will arrive. They don't bill early either, so this is a nice perk to order when I'm in the shopping mood and plant with good notice.
I order most of my yard items online, and I can say that Brecks is excellent. With all the options out there, I would not continue to order if they did not deliver as promised. I have been thrilled with all bulbs, and I could send them back if not satisfied. I've never sent anything back though, because they do send great bulbs.
There are not many nursery sites that I give the thumbs up. The other garden company that I love is Burpee. That one is more vegetable garden oriented though does have some flowers too.
