Look Beyond the Front Page
Shopping Tip #4
Think about it. When you walk into a store, there are displays prominently up front. Why do you think that is? One reason is to get you interested and make you shop at the store but another is because the merchant wants to sell whatever is on those shelves and racks and probably is making a big profit from it all.
Walk around the store a little and what will you find? Sales, clearance bins, specials, and deals!
I always walk past the high-ticket stuff when I go to department stores or boutiques and check around for the clearance and sale items.
Online, it's the same thing. The front page sucks you in with some current specials and deals as well as items the site clearly wants you to buy. That doesn't mean they are deceptive. They are in business and want you to buy the items that make them the most money or that are being discontinued or expiring.
Look beyond the front page. Check out the sale and clearance sections for unadvertised items at slashed rates. Browse around categories and look for marked down items and items tagged with specials deals attached (Buy one, get one free, free shipping, gifts with purchase, etc.).
Don't assume the best deals are on the front page. Some good deals may be front and center but some really great ones may be hidden within the site.
Just as I don't like to pay full price at the mall or a department store, I don't online. I look for marked down and reduced items as well as specials deals hidden away behind the front page
If you want to save big on many websites, scope out the areas that you generally don't look in and always look at the sales and clearance sections. Some great deals are just waiting for you to scoop them up. They're just hidden away a bit because they aren't as profitable as the higher ticket items being pushed by the site.
Take the time to browse a little bit and explore the sites you shop on. Don't count on the homepage to steer you toward the very best deals. A few extra minutes doing a little research could save you some big bucks!
Happy Shopping!
